The GOP contenders for president debate tonight at Oakland University. The federal bailout of Detroit’s auto industry has already become a flashpoint. It’s unclear whether any of the contenders will touch on the recent string of harassment charges leveled against Herman Cain. But the federal bailout of the auto industry is a central topic even before the candidates take the stage. Native son Mitt Romney says he favored automakers going through a traditional bankruptcy and would not have pursued a taxpayer-funded bailout. On that point – at least – his fellow GOP contenders agree with him. But Democrats have targeted Romney – in particular -- with videos on the internet repeatedly playing clips of Romney saying “let Detroit go bankrupt.”
