Former Governor Engler To Talk Business, Politics At Detroit Economic Club

October 15, 2012

The head of the national Business Roundtable organization – former Michigan Governor John Engler – addresses members of the Detroit Economic Club today. Engler praises growth in the manufacturing base but says lawmakers must not accept an unemployment rate hovering around eight percent as the nation’s new normal. The former Republican governor criticizes both the GOP and Democrats for continuing partisan gridlock in Washington rather than adopting policies to help create new jobs. In a recent Wall Street Journal editorial Engler argues that current tax policies prevent businesses from hiring. He says the US needs to reduce taxes on corporations and stop applying an extra tax on profits earned in foreign countries.
