Eye Institute Procedure Brings Sight To The Blind

WDET continues its Crossing the Lines series this morning (Thur.) It’s an in-depth exploration of what unites us and divides us as people and as a region.
A medical facility in Grosse Pointe Park is luring researchers not only from across Metro Detroit’s municipal boundaries but also bringing them from outside the nation’s borders as well. The Detroit Institute of Ophthalmology is pioneering research in restoring eyesight by implanting electronic chips. WDET’s Quinn Klinefelter talked with the president of the institute – Dr. Philip Hessburg – about the program called “the eye and the chip”…which is bringing people to Grosse Point Park from around the world.
