Detroit Emergency Manager Awaits Court Ruling On Bankruptcy

A federal judge says he – not an Ingham County judge – has jurisdiction over whether Detroit must withdraw its bankruptcy filing. The Ingham County judge says the filing violates the state constitution’s prohibition against cutting public employee’s pensions. The federal bankruptcy judge says he will rule on the matter later this week. WDET’s Quinn Klinefelter talked about the largest municipal bankruptcy in the nation’s history -- and the court order to withdraw it – with the man who filed for Chapter Nine protection on behalf of the city, Detroit Emergency Manager Kevyn Orr.
