Detroit Council: Financial Advisory Board Has No Power

The Detroit City Council is weighing whether to hold a special session next week to consider a contract with the law firm Miller Canfield. Mayor Dave Bing warns if Council rejects that contract again the state will withhold bond monies and the city will veer into insolvency. But Council members are concerned that the law firm helped craft Public Act 4 – the emergency manager law voters recently overturned – and the financial agreement between Detroit and the state.
