D.C. Mayor Speaks to Detroit Financial Review Team

March 13, 2012

State Treasurer Andy Dillon presented the Detroit Financial Review Team with a revised version of a proposed consent agreement Tuesday. Former Washington D.C. Mayor Anthony Williams spoke to the team about his own experience with a consent agreement during the meeting this afternoon. He says the deal strikes a balance between city government and a consent committee.

“Puts in place the right connection between the critically important role of officials…elected officials in setting the policy agenda for the city monitoring that agenda and a reliable sustainable mechanism to actually realize that agenda.”

Members of the review team raised a concern that the consent agreement does not allow enough room to negotiate with unions. The review team will meet again Friday to vote on the proposed agreement.
