Civil Rights Group Argues Feds Should Still Oversee Detroit Police

Concern over shootings by police in Missouri spilled over into Detroit this week, where an angry crowd had to be dispersed after officers fired at suspects who tried to run them down with a SUV. This comes at a time when Detroit officials are joining with the Justice Department to request an end to direct federal oversight of the city’s police force, which has been in place since 2003. The Detroit Coalition Against Police Brutality’s Ron Scott tells WDET’s Quinn Klinefelter the group will fight to maintain federal oversight of the force.
