On 9/11, first responders with different agencies in New York and elsewhere found it difficult, if not impossible, to talk to each other as the tragic events unfolded. In the months following the attacks of 9/11, it became clear that the public safety community needed access to a more reliable and robust communications network. Both Congress and the wireless industry hoped to have one in place by the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks. But as WDET’s Noah Ovshinsky reports, lawmakers on Capitol Hill have yet to agree on a plan, meaning the upcoming milestone will pass without such a system in place.
