Michigan State Police say three people were killed in a massive crash on I-75 southbound near Springwells in Detroit Thursday morning. Lt. Michael Shaw tells WDET's Pat Batcheller that about 30 vehicles were involved in the crash around 9:30 am. Drivers told investigators that there was a sudden burst of snow moments before the accident. I-75 was closed for about six hours, but traffic was moving in both directions by 4:00 pm Thursday.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Washtenaw, Livingston, and St. Clair Counties until 7:00 Thursday night. Lake effect snow bands are expected to reduce visibility to less than a quarter of a mile at times. Extreme caution is advised on the roads.
