Detroit Poets Ready To Perform At "Brave New Voices"

Friday, August 9, 2013

Detroit’s youth poetry team is in Chicago for an international slam poetry competition -- Brave New Voices. The young poets will spend the next couple of days rehearsing, refining and performing poems in “bouts” against teams from as nearby as Ann Arbor and as far away as South Africa. WDET’s Laura Weber-Davis is following the Detroit team’s progress in Chicago. She met up with the poets early Wednesday morning before they boarded a bus that would take them from Midtown Detroit to the Windy City. The youth and coaches say they are excited to share their poetry with the world.

The Brave New Voices series is part of WDET's Summer of Kids. Learn how you can support the Detroit team and create new opportunities for local youth at wdet.org/kids.
