A Mackinac(ish) Approach To Solving Problems

May 29, 2014

By Pat Batcheller

"It came out of creating job opportunities for people who have employment barriers."

Terry Parris, WDET's Digital Specialist.

There’s another conference going on up north—like Mackinac—but with a younger view. It’s called Assemble@Mackinac(ish). It’s happening in Charlevoix, and WDET is one of the media partners for the event. One of its goals is to address a specific problem and engage the community in solving it. WDET digital specialist Terry Parris is covering the conference. He tells WDET’s Pat Batcheller the group hopes to fix chronic unemployment in Detroit by putting people to work at Recovery Park, an urban farming project on the east side.

You can see a live stream of the discussions there and at the Mackinac Policy Conference at wdet.org.

Terry is also sharing pictures on twitter and on Instagram @wdetdetroit.
