State officials are close to finalizing the transfer of broad administrative powers back to city government in Pontiac.

The city has been under state financial oversight since 2009.

But Pontiac’s Receivership Transition Advisory Board recently approved an amendment to expand Pontiac Mayor Deirdre Waterman’s authority.

The Director of Communications for the Michigan Department of Treasury is Terry Stanton.

He says Pontiac’s mayor will soon oversee a range of activity.

“Those things will be along the lines of … you know … budget development … economic development… pension and other post-employment retirement benefit issues … and litigation involving the Phoenix Center.”

Stanton says Michigan Treasurer Kevin Clinton still needs to approve the agreement.

He says he expects the deal to be confirmed in the next week or so.
