City Councillor Drew Dilkens is asking Windsor officials to draft a by-law that would limit panhandling in the downtown core.

Dilkens says he wants to restrict the areas where panhandlers can ask for money.

“Specifically close to banks and A-T-Ms. Looking at time of day … and restricting panhandling from dusk to dawn. And also near bus stops … bus shelters. And hopefully within a certain distance of the entrances to businesses as well.”

Dilkens says similar by-laws exist in other Canadian cities, including Winnipeg, Calgary and Saskatoon.

He says he expects the city administration to present a draft by-law for the council to consider later in the spring.
