Federal Civil Rights Team To Hold Open Meetings at University of Michigan

Tuesday, April 8, 2014

Representatives from the US Department of Education meet with students and staff at the University of Michigan next week.

It’s part of an on-going investigation by the department’s Office for Civil Rights into how the University handles cases of sexual misconduct involving students.

University spokesperson Rick Fitzgerald says the federal review team has planned open house forums.

“People can drop in and they’ll have staff members there … who can talk with students or staff … and … people can make appointments if they want to. And there’s also an opportunity to provide … feedback or comments via e-mail.”

Fitzgerald says the Office for Civil Rights is also conducting focus meetings with certain groups on campus.

The open forums are scheduled for April 15, 16 and 17, in the Michigan Union.
