Same-Sex Marriage Decision Could Influence Cases Across US, Says ACLU Attorney by WDET

A federal judge has overturned Michigan’s constitutional ban on same-sex marriage and civil unions. U.S. District Court Judge Bernard Friedman ruled that the state’s ban violated the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment.

Jay Kaplan is the LGBT Project Staff Attorney for the ACLU of Michigan. He tells WDET’s Sandra Svoboda that Judge Friedman said all the right words in his decision.
