Detroit State Of City: Duggan's Relationship With Council Is Strong So Far

February 27, 2014

"Anything that we can do to offer Detroiters a more affordable insurance rate I think would be great."

Detroit City Council member Saunteel Jenkins, reacting to Mayor Mike Duggan's State of the City address.

Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan says he’s ordered 50 new buses to help people get to work, especially those who have to ride mass transit because they can’t afford car insurance. Detroiters pay some of the highest rates in the nation, and Duggan says the city will look into creating its own auto insurance plan, offering cheaper rates to residents. He’ll work with the council to determine whether such a plan is feasible. Council member Saunteel Jenkins tells WDET’s Pat Batcheller she likes the idea.
