Surviving To 18 Isn't Easy

About three dozen children die in homicides in Detroit every year--nearly 500 young victims since 2000. But violence is not the number one killer of children in the city. That’s according to data collected by the Detroit News for a two-part series published Thursday and Friday. The paper found that most often, children who die don’t survive their first year. Reporter Karen Bouffard led the News investigation. She tells WDET's Pat Batcheller some of the reasons why children die in Detroit at a higher rate than other American cities.
