Mission and Vision


WDET serves the community with informative programming that meets the highest standards of journalism and cultural expression – a mission that has been maintained for over 60 years. On the air and streaming on the internet, WDET showcases our area’s contemporary music and artists while enhancing national news and information programs with the addition of locally-produced news and features to provide compelling programming 7 days per week, 24 hours per day, as a public service to its 150,000 area listeners and members.


Moving into its 62nd year of service to the Metro Detroit area that it serves, WDET public radio seeks to:

  • Maintain and expand an outstanding local regional journalism service
  • Lead as a significant regional voice for the arts and culture
  • Contribute to the regional vitality by serving as a leader in Detroit’s national and international media presence
