Margaret Garner tells the story of a slave mother who is pushed to the edge by the injustices of Antebellum America.  An escaped slave, she makes the fateful decision; she would rather her children were dead than to return to the bonds of slavery.  Garner's case brought attention to the institution of slavery and the evils that were put upon the enslaved Africans.

Composed by Grammy award-winner Richard Danielpour and with libretto by Toni Morrison, audiences will witness the heart of the human spirit, and be lifted by the hope and love that gives us strength.  By popular demand, Michigan Opera Theatre revives the landmark opera that made its extraordinary world premiere on the stage of the Detroit Opera House.

Tickets are available in person at the Detroit Opera House ticket office (1526 Broadway, Detroit, 48226), by phone at (313) 237-SING or online at www.TicketMaster.com <http://www.MichiganOpera.org>.
