Developer Working to Bring New Life to Detroit’s Virginia Park Shopping Plaza

Beal Properties plans to update a shopping center in Virginia Park, in hopes of attracting a few new tenants.

Detroit’s Virginia Park Shopping Plaza is getting an upgrade. The development company Beal Properties plans to spend the next two years renovating the 72,000 square-foot plaza’s vacant storefronts, and repairing its parking lot, signage and landscaping. Company President Stewart Beal says the center has only two large tenants–Family Foods and Family Dollar–but is searching for others.

“We would like a quick service food location—that would be like a lunch place. We would also be interested in talking with a family style restaurant for the restaurant space, and then also I think what would go well there is a small, pet-supply store.”

Beal says his company has already started to fill in holes in the parking lot and will paint fresh stripes along the pavement. He says he is working with the non-profit association that owns the property to determine what the next steps will be.
