DPS Outsources Transportation Services
Feb 23, 2010
General

DPS Emergency Financial Manager Robert Bobb
The Detroit Public Schools will outsource its transportation services to two private companies. Emergency Financial Manager Robert Bobb announced the decision at a news conference Tuesday. He says the move will save the district more than 50 million dollars over the next five years. Bobb says the students will be better served as a result.

"This decision will dramatically improve transportation services for students across the district who now rely on a cobbled together system of contracted companies and district providing services and taxicabs."

The DPS transportation services will be taken over by Detroit-based ABC Student Transportation and Cincinnati-based First Student. Bobb says the district's bus drivers will be hired by the new companies, if they pass certain requirements.
