- DPS Outsources Transportation Services
-
Feb 23, 2010GeneralThe Detroit Public Schools will outsource its transportation services to two private companies. Emergency Financial Manager Robert Bobb announced the decision at a news conference Tuesday. He says the move will save the district more than 50 million dollars over the next five years. Bobb says the students will be better served as a result.

DPS Emergency Financial Manager Robert Bobb"This decision will dramatically improve transportation services for students across the district who now rely on a cobbled together system of contracted companies and district providing services and taxicabs."
The DPS transportation services will be taken over by Detroit-based ABC Student Transportation and Cincinnati-based First Student. Bobb says the district's bus drivers will be hired by the new companies, if they pass certain requirements.
