Auto parts supplier Dana Corporation says it’s laying off  workers at a Missouri facility.  WDET’s Jerome Vaughn has more.

Dana officials say 50 workers will be laid off at the company’s parts plant in Columbia, Missouri.   The factory produces axles for Ford, General Motors and Nissan vehicles.

The plant employs about 250 workers.  But that’s down more than 100 staffers from the same time last year.

The Toledo-based company announced plans in August to lay off more than three thousand workers from its North American operations by the end of this year.  Dana emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in February.

The parts supplier lost 271 million dollars in the third quarter.  Dana has been hard hit by higher commodity costs, the nation’s financial crisis, and dwindling consumer demand for new vehicles.
